Chapter 12

Total Verses: 123

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi
(I) Begin with the Name of Allâh WHO is Most Loving and Most Merciful

وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ إِلاَّ عَلَى اللّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَيَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسْتَوْدَعَهَا كُلٌّ فِي كِتَابٍ مُّبِينٍ

6.                Wama min dabbatin fee alardi illa AAala Allahi rizquha wayaAAlamu mustaqarraha wamustawdaAAaha kullun fee kitabin mubeenin
There is no creature on the earth whose provisions (of life) are not adhere with (depend on) Allâh and about which HE does not know where it lives, and where it is going to be buried, everything is written in a Clear Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).

وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَق السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاء لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلاً وَلَئِن قُلْتَ إِنَّكُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ مِن بَعْدِ الْمَوْتِ لَيَقُولَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ هَـذَا إِلاَّ سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

7.                Wahuwa allathee khalaqa alssamawati waalarda fee sittati ayyamin wakana AAarshuhu AAala almai liyabluwakum ayyukum ahsanu AAamalan walain qulta innakum mabAAoothoona min baAAdi almawti layaqoolanna allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun
And HE is the One WHO created the skies and the earth in Six Days¾whereas before this HIS Throne was on water¾so that (HE) may test you and see who among you do the good deeds. Now O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), if you say O people, you will be raised again after death, then the infidels immediately speak out that this is a clear magic.

وَلَئِنْ أَخَّرْنَا عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ إِلَى أُمَّةٍ مَّعْدُودَةٍ لَّيَقُولُنَّ مَا يَحْبِسُهُ أَلاَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِؤُونَ

8.                Walain akhkharna AAanhumu alAAathaba ila ommatin maAAdoodatin layaqoolunna ma yahbisuhu ala yawma yateehim laysa masroofan AAanhum wahaqa bihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona
And if WE delay their torment till a specific time period then they start saying after all what is keeping it back?  Listen!  The day when the time of that punishment reaches then it will not be averted by anyone and the same thing for which they are ridiculing will come and seize them. (R) 1

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَا الإِنْسَانَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً ثُمَّ نَزَعْنَاهَا مِنْهُ إِنَّهُ لَيَئُوسٌ كَفُورٌ

9.                Walain athaqna alinsana minna rahmatan thumma nazaAAnaha minhu innahu layaoosun kafoorun
After granting OUR blessings on mankind if WE ever deprive (them) from it then they become hopeless and ungrateful.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَاهُ نَعْمَاء بَعْدَ ضَرَّاء مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ السَّيِّئَاتُ عَنِّي إِنَّهُ لَفَرِحٌ فَخُورٌ

10.             Walain athaqnahu naAAmaa baAAda darraa massathu layaqoolanna thahaba alssayyiatu AAannee innahu lafarihun fakhoorun
And after that adversity which came on him/her if WE let him/her taste the blessing (favor) then (he/she) says all of my distresses have departed from me, then he/she is so thrilled and becomes arrogant.

إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ صَبَرُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أُوْلَـئِكَ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ

11.             Illa allatheena sabaroo waAAamiloo alssalihati olaika lahum maghfiratun waajrun kabeerun
If anyone is free from this fault then they are only those people who are patient and are pious and they are the ones for whom there is forgiveness and a great reward. 

فَلَعَلَّكَ تَارِكٌ بَعْضَ مَا يُوحَى إِلَيْكَ وَضَآئِقٌ بِهِ صَدْرُكَ أَن يَقُولُواْ لَوْلاَ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ كَنزٌ أَوْ جَاء مَعَهُ مَلَكٌ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ نَذِيرٌ وَاللّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَكِيلٌ

12.             FalaAAallaka tarikun baAAda ma yooha ilayka wadaiqun bihi sadruka an yaqooloo lawla onzila AAalayhi kanzun aw jaa maAAahu malakun innama anta natheerun waAllahu AAala kulli shayin wakeelun
Then O Messenger (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), should it not be that you possibly ignore (telling) anything from among these things which are being revealed to you and feel distress on this thing that they will say: "Why has no treasure been sent down to him?" Or this that, "Why has no angel come with him?"  You are only a warner, and Allâh is a custodian (Wakîl) of all things. 

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ قُلْ فَأْتُواْ بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِ مُفْتَرَيَاتٍ وَادْعُواْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

13.             Am yaqooloona iftarahu qul fatoo biAAashri suwarin mithlihi muftarayatin waodAAoo mani istataAAtum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena
Do they say that Messenger (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has fabricated this Book (Al-Qur'ân) himself?  Say: "Well if this is the thing then you people bring ten fabricated Sûrah (Chapters) like this and you may call for help whomsoever (of your deities) you can - except Allâh if you are truthful (in considering them as your deities).

فَإِن لَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُواْ لَكُمْ فَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّمَا أُنزِلِ بِعِلْمِ اللّهِ وَأَن لاَّ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

14.             Faillam yastajeeboo lakum faiAAlamoo annama onzila biAAilmi Allahi waan la ilaha illa huwa fahal antum muslimoona
Now if they (your deities) do not come for your help then must know that this has been revealed with the Knowledge of Allâh and that there is no real deity except Allâh (Lâ ilâha illa Huwa).  Do you then submit (before this truth)?"

مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا نُوَفِّ إِلَيْهِمْ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فِيهَا وَهُمْ فِيهَا لاَ يُبْخَسُونَ

15.             Man kana yureedu alhayata alddunya wazeenataha nuwaffi ilayhim aAAmalahum feeha wahum feeha la yubkhasoona
Those people who only desire this worldly life and its beautification WE give them full reward of their deeds in this world and no unjust is being done to them in it.

أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ إِلاَّ النَّارُ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُواْ فِيهَا وَبَاطِلٌ مَّا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ

16.             Olaika allatheena laysa lahum fee alakhirati illa alnnaru wahabita ma sanaAAoo feeha wabatilun ma kanoo yaAAmaloona
But in the Hereafter there is nothing for such people except Hell-Fire.  (There they will come to know that) whatever they had made in the world all is destroyed and now whatever they had done is worthless.

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِ وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْهُ وَمِن قَبْلِهِ كِتَابُ مُوسَى إَمَامًا وَرَحْمَةً أُوْلَـئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِ مِنَ الأَحْزَابِ فَالنَّارُ مَوْعِدُهُ فَلاَ تَكُ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِّنْهُ إِنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ

17.             Afaman kana AAala bayyinatin min rabbihi wayatloohu shahidun minhu wamin qablihi kitabu moosa imaman warahmatan olaika yuminoona bihi waman yakfur bihi mina alahzabi faalnnaru mawAAiduhu fala taku fee miryatin minhu innahu alhaqqu min rabbika walakinna akthara alnnasi la yuminoona
Then the person who had clear evidence from his Râbb, after that a witness also came from the Râbb (in confirmation of that person), and before this -- the Book of Mûsa was also present which came as guidance and a mercy (then can he also deny it like a worshipper of this world?)  (Absolutely not)¾Such people will bring Faith on it.  And whosoever among the human beings refuses it then the promised place for such person is Hell-fire.  Therefore O Messenger (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), you should not be in doubt about this thing, it is the truth from your Râbb but most people do not accept it.

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَى عَلَى اللّهِ كَذِبًا أُوْلَـئِكَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَى رَبِّهِمْ وَيَقُولُ الأَشْهَادُ هَـؤُلاء الَّذِينَ كَذَبُواْ عَلَى رَبِّهِمْ أَلاَ لَعْنَةُ اللّهِ عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ

18.             Waman athlamu mimmani iftara AAala Allahi kathiban olaika yuAAradoona AAala rabbihim wayaqoolu alashhadu haolai allatheena kathaboo AAala rabbihim ala laAAnatu Allahi AAala alththalimeena
And who else will be crueler than the one who fabricates lie against Allâh?  Such people will be brought before their Râbb and the witnesses will testify that these are those people who had fabricated lie against their Râbb.  Listen! The Curse of Allâh is on the cruel (Zâlimûn)¾

الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَهُم بِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ

19.             Allatheena yasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi wayabghoonaha AAiwajan wahum bialakhirati hum kafiroona
On those cruels who stop the people from the Path of Allâh (they) want to make HIS path crooked, and denies the Hereafter¾

أُولَـئِكَ لَمْ يَكُونُواْ مُعْجِزِينَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاء يُضَاعَفُ لَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ مَا كَانُواْ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ السَّمْعَ وَمَا كَانُواْ يُبْصِرُونَ

20.             Olaika lam yakoonoo muAAjizeena fee alardi wama kana lahum min dooni Allahi min awliyaa yudaAAafu lahumu alAAathabu ma kanoo yastateeAAoona alssamAAa wama kanoo yubsiroona
They were not to make Allâh helpless on the earth and nor they had any helper against Allâh.  Now double punishment will be given to them.  They could neither hear others nor could they understand themselves.

أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَ

21.             Olaika allatheena khasiroo anfusahum wadalla AAanhum ma kanoo yaftaroona
These are those people who put themselves into loss and all that which they had invented was lost from them.

لاَ جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ هُمُ الأَخْسَرُونَ

22.             La jarama annahum fee alakhirati humu alakhsaroona
It is necessary that they should be in greatest loss in the Hereafter.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَخْبَتُواْ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ أُوْلَـئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الجَنَّةِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

23.             Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alsalihati waakhbatoo ila rabbihim olaika ashabu aljannati hum feeha khalidoona
As far those people who brought Faith and did righteous deeds and dedicated themselves to their Râbb, then certainly they are the residents of Paradise and they will stay in Paradise forever.

مَثَلُ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ كَالأَعْمَى وَالأَصَمِّ وَالْبَصِيرِ وَالسَّمِيعِ هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلاً أَفَلاَ تَذَكَّرُونَ

24.             Mathalu alfareeqayni kaalaAAma waalasammi waalbaseeri waalssameeAAi hal yastawiyani mathalan afala tathakkaroona
The example of both of these parties is such as one person is blind and deaf and the other can see and hear -- can these both be equal?  Do you (from this example) not take any lesson? (R) 2

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَى قَوْمِهِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

25.             Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi innee lakum natheerun mubeenun
(And such were the circumstances when) WE sent Nûh towards his people.  (He said): "I clearly warn you that

أَن لاَّ تَعْبُدُواْ إِلاَّ اللّهَ إِنِّيَ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ

26.             An la taAAbudoo illa Allaha innee akhafu AAalaykum AAathaba yawmin aleemin
Do not worship anyone except Allâh otherwise I fear that one day painful torment will come on you."

فَقَالَ الْمَلأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قِوْمِهِ مَا نَرَاكَ إِلاَّ بَشَرًا مِّثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرَاكَ اتَّبَعَكَ إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ هُمْ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِيَ الرَّأْيِ وَمَا نَرَى لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِن فَضْلٍ بَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كَاذِبِينَ

27.             Faqala almalao allatheena kafaroo min qawmihi ma naraka illa basharan mithlana wama naraka ittabaAAaka illa allatheena hum arathiluna badiya alrrayi wama nara lakum AAalayna min fadlin bal nathunnukum kathibeena
In reply the chiefs of his nation who refused to accept his words, said: "To us you are no more than a man like ourselves.  And we are seeing that only those people who were inferior among us have followed you without any rational.  And we do find any such thing in which you people have superiority on us, in fact we think you are a liar."

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّيَ وَآتَانِي رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِهِ فَعُمِّيَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا وَأَنتُمْ لَهَا كَارِهُونَ

28.             Qala ya qawmi araaytum in kuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee waatanee rahmatan min AAindihi faAAummiyat AAalaykum anulzimukumooha waantum laha karihoona
He said: "O people of my nation, use your common sense that if I was on a clear proof from my Râbb and then HE also blessed me with HIS special Favor (Prophethood) but you did not see it -- then what means do we have to make you to believe with force which you do not want to believe?

وَيَا قَوْمِ لا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مَالاً إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى اللّهِ وَمَآ أَنَاْ بِطَارِدِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِنَّهُم مُّلاَقُو رَبِّهِمْ وَلَـكِنِّيَ أَرَاكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ

29.             Waya qawmi la asalukum AAalayhi malan in ajriya illa AAala Allahi wama ana bitaridi allatheena amanoo innahum mulaqoo rabbihim walakinnee arakum qawman tajhaloona
And O people of my nation, I do not ask any wealth from you for this task, my reward is with Allâh.  And I am not going to send away those people who have embraced my message; they themselves are ready to go before their Râbb.  But I see that you people are acting like ignorant.

وَيَا قَوْمِ مَن يَنصُرُنِي مِنَ اللّهِ إِن طَرَدتُّهُمْ أَفَلاَ تَذَكَّرُونَ

30.             Waya qawmi man yansurunee mina Allahi in taradtuhum afala tathakkaroona
And O my nation, if I drive them away then who will come and save me from the Grip of Allâh?  Don’t you people understand this little thing?

وَلاَ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِندِي خَزَآئِنُ اللّهِ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ وَلاَ أَقُولُ إِنِّي مَلَكٌ وَلاَ أَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ تَزْدَرِي أَعْيُنُكُمْ لَن يُؤْتِيَهُمُ اللّهُ خَيْرًا اللّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ إِنِّي إِذًا لَّمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

31.             Wala aqoolu lakum AAindee khazainu Allahi wala aAAlamu alghayba wala aqoolu innee malakun wala aqoolu lillatheena tazdaree aAAyunukum lan yutiyahumu Allahu khayran Allahu aAAlamu bima fee anfusihim innee ithan lamina alththalimeena
And I do not say to you that I have the Treasures of Allâh -- neither I say that I have the knowledge of the unseen (Ghaib), nor I claim that I am an angel.  And I cannot also say that whom your eyes see with hatred, Allâh has not given any good to them. Allâh knows best the condition of their inner-selves.  If I say so I will be among the wrong-doers (Zâlimûn)."

قَالُواْ يَا نُوحُ قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَأْتَنِا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

32.             Qaloo ya noohu qad jadaltana faaktharta jidalana fatina bima taAAiduna in kunta mina alssadiqeena
Ultimately those people said: "O Nûh! You disputed with us and have done enough.  Now just bring that punishment with which you are threatening us -- if you are truthful."

قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُم بِهِ اللّهُ إِن شَاء وَمَا أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ

33.             Qala innama yateekum bihi Allahu in shaa wama antum bimuAAjizeena
Nûh replied: "Only Allâh will bring that (punishment), if HE Wills, and you do not have much power to stop it.

وَلاَ يَنفَعُكُمْ نُصْحِي إِنْ أَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَنصَحَ لَكُمْ إِن كَانَ اللّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يُغْوِيَكُمْ هُوَ رَبُّكُمْ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

34.             Wala yanfaAAukum nushee in aradtu an ansaha lakum in kana Allahu yureedu an yughwiyakum huwa rabbukum wailayhi turjaAAoona
Now if I want to do any good for you then my well-wishing cannot benefit you when Allâh has decided to send you astray, HE is your Râbb and to HIM you have to return."

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ قُلْ إِنِ افْتَرَيْتُهُ فَعَلَيَّ إِجْرَامِي وَأَنَاْ بَرِيءٌ مِّمَّا تُجْرَمُونَ

35.             Am yaqooloona iftarahu qul ini iftaraytuhu faAAalayya ijramee waana bareeon mimma tujrimoona
O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), do these people say that this person has fabricated all this by himself?  Tell them, "If I have fabricated it myself then I am responsible for my crime, and the crimes you are committing I am free from its responsibility." (R) 3

وَأُوحِيَ إِلَى نُوحٍ أَنَّهُ لَن يُؤْمِنَ مِن قَوْمِكَ إِلاَّ مَن قَدْ آمَنَ فَلاَ تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْعَلُونَ

36.             Waoohiya ila noohin annahu lan yumina min qawmika illa man qad amana fala tabtais bima kanoo yafAAaloona
The revelation was sent to Nûh that those people, who have brought Faith among your nation, they are the only ones, now there is none who is going to accept.  Stop grieving on their deeds

وَاصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا وَلاَ تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ

37.             WaisnaAAi alfulka biaAAyunina wawahyina wala tukhatibnee fee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoona
And under OUR Supervision according to OUR Revelation start building a boat.  And see do not pray to ME in favor of those people who have done cruelty, they all are now going to be drowned."

وَيَصْنَعُ الْفُلْكَ وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ مَلأٌ مِّن قَوْمِهِ سَخِرُواْ مِنْهُ قَالَ إِن تَسْخَرُواْ مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسْخَرُ مِنكُمْ كَمَا تَسْخَرُونَ

38.             WayasnaAAu alfulka wakullama marra AAalayhi malaon min qawmihi sakhiroo minhu qala in taskharoo minna fainna naskharu minkum kama taskharoona
Nûh was making the boat and whosoever from among the chiefs of his nation passed by him, he used to make mockery of him.  He said: "If you laugh at us then we are also laughing at you,

فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ

39.             Fasawfa taAAlamoona man yateehi AAathabun yukhzeehi wayahillu AAalayhi AAathabun muqeemun
Soon you will come to know yourselves that on whom that torment is going to come which will disgrace him and on whom that disaster falls which will not be averted."

حَتَّى إِذَا جَاء أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ قُلْنَا احْمِلْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلاَّ مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ وَمَنْ آمَنَ وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلاَّ قَلِيلٌ

40.             Hatta itha jaa amruna wafara alttannooru qulna ihmil feeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illa man sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu waman amana wama amana maAAahu illa qaleelun
Finally when OUR Command came and that oven gushed out (with water) then WE said: "Keep a pair (male and female) of every kind of animals in the boat, as well as your family¾except those people who are already pointed out¾embark in it and also let those people sit who have brought Faith."  And those people were small in numbers who brought Faith with Nûh.

وَقَالَ ارْكَبُواْ فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

41.             Waqala irkaboo feeha bismi Allahi majraha wamursaha inna rabbee laghafoorun raheemun
Nûh said: "Embark in it, the sailing and stopping of it is only with the Name of Allâh -- my Râbb is Forgiving and Merciful."

وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ كَالْجِبَالِ وَنَادَى نُوحٌ ابْنَهُ وَكَانَ فِي مَعْزِلٍ يَا بُنَيَّ ارْكَب مَّعَنَا وَلاَ تَكُن مَّعَ الْكَافِرِينَ

42.             Wahiya tajree bihim fee mawjin kaaljibali wanada noohunu ibnahu wakana fee maAAzilin ya bunayya irkab maAAana wala takun maAAa alkafireena
The boat was sailing with those people and each wave was rising like a mountain. Nûh’s son was on a distance.  Nûh cried out, "son, embark with us, do not remain with infidels."

قَالَ سَآوِي إِلَى جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْمَاء قَالَ لاَ عَاصِمَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللّهِ إِلاَّ مَن رَّحِمَ وَحَالَ بَيْنَهُمَا الْمَوْجُ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِينَ

43.             Qala saawee ila jabalin yaAAsimunee mina almai qala la AAasima alyawma min amri Allahi illa man rahima wahala baynahuma almawju fakana mina almughraqeena
In response he (son) said: "I am going to climb on a mountain right now that will save me from the water."  Nûh said: "Today nothing is going to save from the Decree of Allâh except that Allâh HIMSELF does a mercy on anyone."  In the mean time a wave came in between them and he (son) also joined those who were drowned.

وَقِيلَ يَا أَرْضُ ابْلَعِي مَاءكِ وَيَا سَمَاء أَقْلِعِي وَغِيضَ الْمَاء وَقُضِيَ الأَمْرُ وَاسْتَوَتْ عَلَى الْجُودِيِّ وَقِيلَ بُعْداً لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

44.             Waqeela ya ardu iblaAAee maaki waya samao aqliAAee wagheeda almao waqudiya alamru waistawat AAala aljoodiyyi waqeela buAAdan lilqawmi alththalimeena
It was Commanded: "O earth, swallow all your water and O sky stop (raining)."  Therefore the water went into the earth, matter was decided (the Decree of Allâh was fulfilled), the boat rested on Joudi (mount), and it was said that departed the nation of cruel people (Zâlimûn)!

وَنَادَى نُوحٌ رَّبَّهُ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ ابُنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنتَ أَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِينَ

45.             Wanada noohun rabbahu faqala rabbi inna ibnee min ahlee wainna waAAdaka alhaqqu waanta ahkamu alhakimeena
Nûh called upon his Râbb.  Said, "O my Râbb! My son is of my family and YOUR Promise is true and YOU are the Great and the Best Sovereign of all the rulers."

قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ فَلاَ تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

46.             Qala ya noohu innahu laysa min ahlika innahu AAamalun ghayru salihin fala tasalni ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun innee aAAithuka an takoona mina aljahileena
In response it was said, "O Nûh he is not from your family members, he is a rebellion (worthless act), therefore; you should not request to ME for that of which you do not know the reality, I advise you that you should not act like the ignorant people."

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَإِلاَّ تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُن مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

47.             Qala rabbi innee aAAoothu bika an asalaka ma laysa lee bihi AAilmun wailla taghfir lee watarhamnee akun mina alkhasireena
Nûh immediately requested: "O my Râbb, I seek refuge with YOU from asking that thing from YOU of which I have no knowledge.  If YOU do not forgive me and have a mercy on me then I will be completely ruined."

قِيلَ يَا نُوحُ اهْبِطْ بِسَلاَمٍ مِّنَّا وَبَركَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أُمَمٍ مِّمَّن مَّعَكَ وَأُمَمٌ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمْ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

48.             Qeela ya noohu ihbit bisalamin minna wabarakatin AAalayka waAAala omamin mimman maAAaka waomamun sanumattiAAuhum thumma yamassuhum minna AAathabun aleemun
It was Commanded: "O Nûh disembark, there are blessing and peace from US on you and on those people who are with you, and there are some such groups whom WE shall grant the provisions of life for some time then painful torment will reach them from US."

تِلْكَ مِنْ أَنبَاء الْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهَا إِلَيْكَ مَا كُنتَ تَعْلَمُهَا أَنتَ وَلاَ قَوْمُكَ مِن قَبْلِ هَـذَا فَاصْبِرْ إِنَّ الْعَاقِبَةَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

49.             Tilka min anbai alghaybi nooheeha ilayka ma kunta taAAlamuha anta wala qawmuka min qabli hatha faisbir inna alAAaqibata lilmuttaqeena
O Prophet (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), these are the news (facts) of unseen that WE are revealing to you.  Before this neither you nor your people knew them.  So be patient, the end-result is in favor of the pious people (Muttaqûn). (R) 4

وَإِلَى عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُواْ اللّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـهٍ غَيْرُهُ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلاَّ مُفْتَرُونَ

50.             Waila AAadin akhahum hoodan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu in antum illa muftaroona
And towards 'Ad (a nation) WE sent their brother Hûd.  He said, "O people of my nation, Worship Allâh you do not have any other deity (Ilâh) except HIM.  You have merely fabricated lies.

يَا قَوْمِ لا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ

51.             Ya qawmi la asalukum AAalayhi ajran in ajriya illa AAala allathee fataranee afala taAAqiloona
"O people of my nation, I do not want any reward from you on this job (work), my reward is with HIM WHO has created me, do you not use common-sense?

وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُواْ إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاء عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَى قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلاَ تَتَوَلَّوْاْ مُجْرِمِينَ

52.             Waya qawmi istaghfiroo rabbakum thumma tooboo ilayhi yursili alssamaa AAalaykum midraran wayazidkum quwwatan ila quwwatikum wala tatawallaw mujrimeena
And O people of my nation, seek forgiveness of your Râbb, then turn to HIM (in repentance), HE will open gates of the skies on you and will add more strength to your present power.  Do not turn away (from worship) as criminals (Mujrimûn)."

قَالُواْ يَا هُودُ مَا جِئْتَنَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَارِكِي آلِهَتِنَا عَن قَوْلِكَ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

53.             Qaloo ya hoodu ma jitana bibayyinatin wama nahnu bitarikee alihatina AAan qawlika wama nahnu laka bimumineena
They replied, "O Hûd, you have not brought any clear proof to us and we cannot leave our deities (merely) on your saying, and we are not going to bring Faith on you.

إِن نَّقُولُ إِلاَّ اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوَءٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُ اللّهِ وَاشْهَدُواْ أَنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِّمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ

54.             In naqoolu illa iAAtaraka baAAdu alihatina bisooin qala innee oshhidu Allaha waishhadoo annee bareeon mimma tushrikoona
We think that some of our deities have afflicted you with their curse."  Hûd replied, "I present the witness of Allâh.  And you are my witnesses that I am sick of this that you have taken other deities except Allâh.

مِن دُونِهِ فَكِيدُونِي جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ لاَ تُنظِرُونِ

55.             Min doonihi fakeedoonee jameeAAan thumma la tunthirooni
You all get together and plot a plan against me and do not give me any respite,

إِنِّي تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللّهِ رَبِّي وَرَبِّكُم مَّا مِن دَآبَّةٍ إِلاَّ هُوَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

56.             Innee tawakkaltu AAala Allahi rabbee warabbikum ma min dabbatin illa huwa akhithun binasiyatiha inna rabbee AAala siratin mustaqeemin
My Trust is in Allâh WHO is my Râbb as well as your Râbb.  There is no creature whose peak (destiny) is not in HIS Hands.  No doubt, my Râbb is on the Right Path.

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُم مَّا أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفُ رَبِّي قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلاَ تَضُرُّونَهُ شَيْئًا إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَىَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَفِيظٌ

57.             Fain tawallaw faqad ablaghtukum ma orsiltu bihi ilaykum wayastakhlifu rabbee qawman ghayrakum wala tadurroonahu shayan inna rabbee AAala kulli shayin hafeethun
If you turn your faces then turn away.  I have delivered the Message with which I was sent to you.  Now my Râbb will raise another nation at your place and you will not be able to harm HIM in any way.  Surely, my Râbb is Custodian of everything."

وَلَمَّا جَاء أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا هُودًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّا وَنَجَّيْنَاهُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ

58.             Walamma jaa amruna najjayna hoodan waallatheena amanoo maAAahu birahmatin minna wanajjaynahum min AAathabin ghaleethin
And when OUR Commandment came then with OUR Mercy WE saved Hûd and those people who had brought Faith with him and saved them from a severe torment.

وَتِلْكَ عَادٌ جَحَدُواْ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَصَوْاْ رُسُلَهُ وَاتَّبَعُواْ أَمْرَ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ

59.             Watilka AAadun jahadoo biayati rabbihim waAAasaw rusulahu waittabaAAoo amra kulli jabbarin AAaneedin
These are the people of 'Ad (nation), they denied the Revelation (Ayât) of their Râbb, disobeyed HIS Rasools, and kept following every dictator enemy of truth.

وَأُتْبِعُواْ فِي هَـذِهِ الدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَلا إِنَّ عَادًا كَفَرُواْ رَبَّهُمْ أَلاَ بُعْدًا لِّعَادٍ قَوْمِ هُودٍ

60.             WaotbiAAoo fee hathihi alddunya laAAnatan wayawma alqiyamati ala inna AAadan kafaroo rabbahum ala buAAdan liAAadin qawmi hoodin
Finally a curse was on them in this world as well as in the Hereafter.  Listen! 'Ad committed infidelity (Kufr) with their Râbb.  Listen! 'Ad were thrown away, the people of the nation of Hûd. (R) 5

وَإِلَى ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُواْ اللّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـهٍ غَيْرُهُ هُوَ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ الأَرْضِ وَاسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُواْ إِلَيْهِ إِنَّ رَبِّي قَرِيبٌ مُّجِيبٌ

61.             Waila thamooda akhahum salihan qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu huwa anshaakum mina alardi waistaAAmarakum feeha faistaghfiroohu thumma tooboo ilayhi inna rabbee qareebun mujeebun
And towards Thamûd (a nation) WE sent their brother Sâlih.  He said: "O people of my nation -- worship Allâh you have no other deity (Ilâh) except HIM.  HE is the One WHO has created you from the earth and settled you in it.  Therefore you seek forgiveness from HIM and return to HIM (in repentance), certainly my Râbb is near and HE answers to the prayers."

قَالُواْ يَا صَالِحُ قَدْ كُنتَ فِينَا مَرْجُوًّا قَبْلَ هَـذَا أَتَنْهَانَا أَن نَّعْبُدَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا وَإِنَّنَا لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍ

62.             Qaloo ya salihu qad kunta feena marjuwwan qabla hatha atanhana an naAAbuda ma yaAAbudu abaona wainnana lafee shakkin mimma tadAAoona ilayhi mureebun
They responded: "O Sâlih, before this you were such a person among us with whom we had great expectations.  Do you want to forbid us to worship those deities whom our forefathers used to worship?  The path (way of life) towards which you are inviting us we have big doubt about it and this has caused feeling of distraction in us."

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَى بَيِّنَةً مِّن رَّبِّي وَآتَانِي مِنْهُ رَحْمَةً فَمَن يَنصُرُنِي مِنَ اللّهِ إِنْ عَصَيْتُهُ فَمَا تَزِيدُونَنِي غَيْرَ تَخْسِيرٍ

63.             Qala ya qawmi araaytum in kuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee waatanee minhu rahmatan faman yansurunee mina Allahi in AAasaytuhu fama tazeedoonanee ghayra takhseerin
Sâlih replied, "O people of my nation, have you ponder on it that if I had a clear proof from my Râbb, and later HE also granted me with HIS Mercy (Prophethood) then after this who will save me from Allâh if I disobey HIM?  What can you do for me except this that you put me in more losses?

وَيَا قَوْمِ هَـذِهِ نَاقَةُ اللّهِ لَكُمْ آيَةً فَذَرُوهَا تَأْكُلْ فِي أَرْضِ اللّهِ وَلاَ تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابٌ قَرِيبٌ

64.             Waya qawmi hathihi naqatu Allahi lakum ayatan fatharooha takul fee ardi Allahi wala tamassooha bisooin fayakhuthakum AAathabun qareebun
And O people of my nation! Look this she-camel of Allâh is a sign for you. Leave her free to graze on the land of Allâh.  Never touch (stop) her otherwise it would not be long that wrath of Allâh would seize you.

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَقَالَ تَمَتَّعُواْ فِي دَارِكُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ذَلِكَ وَعْدٌ غَيْرُ مَكْذُوبٍ

65.             FaAAaqarooha faqala tamattaAAoo fee darikum thalathata ayyamin thalika waAAdun ghayru makthoobin
But they killed she-camel.  On this Sâlih warned them that, "Now you have only three days to live and enjoy in your homes.  This is such time period (promise) which will not prove untrue."

فَلَمَّا جَاء أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا صَالِحًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّا وَمِنْ خِزْيِ يَوْمِئِذٍ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْقَوِيُّ الْعَزِيزُ

66.             Falamma jaa amruna najjayna salihan waallatheena amanoo maAAahu birahmatin minna wamin khizyi yawmiithin inna rabbaka huwa alqawiyyu alAAazeezu
Finally when the time of OUR Decision came then WE with OUR Mercy saved Sâlih and those people, who brought Faith with him and saved them from the disgrace of that Day.  No doubt in fact only your Râbb is Powerful and Omnipotent.

وَأَخَذَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ الصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُواْ فِي دِيَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ

67.             Waakhatha allatheena thalamoo alssayhatu faasbahoo fee diyarihim jathimeena
As far those people who had done cruelty, a dreadful shock (Saîhah) overtook them and they remained laying lifeless in their homes

كَأَن لَّمْ يَغْنَوْاْ فِيهَا أَلاَ إِنَّ ثَمُودَ كَفرُواْ رَبَّهُمْ أَلاَ بُعْدًا لِّثَمُودَ

68.             Kaan lam yaghnaw feeha ala inna thamooda kafaroo rabbahum ala buAAdan lithamooda
As if they had never lived there.  Listen! Thamûd committed infidelity (Kufr) with their Râbb.  Listen! Thamûd were thrown away. (R) 6

وَلَقَدْ جَاءتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُـشْرَى قَالُواْ سَلاَمًا قَالَ سَلاَمٌ فَمَا لَبِثَ أَن جَاء بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيذٍ

69.             Walaqad jaat rusuluna ibraheema bialbushra qaloo salaman qala salamun fama labitha an jaa biAAijlin haneethin
And Look, OUR Angels came to Ibrahîm with good news.  They said, peace is upon you (Salâm). Ibrahîm responded peace is upon you as well (Salâm).  Then it did not take longer that Ibrahîm brought a roasted calf (to entertain them).

فَلَمَّا رَأَى أَيْدِيَهُمْ لاَ تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً قَالُواْ لاَ تَخَفْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَى قَوْمِ لُوطٍ

70.             Falamma raa aydiyahum la tasilu ilayhi nakirahum waawjasa minhum kheefatan qaloo la takhaf inna orsilna ila qawmi lootin
But when (he) saw that their hands has not extended toward it then he became doubtful about them and started feeling fear of them in his heart.  They said, "Do not fear, we have been sent down towards the nation of Lout."

وَامْرَأَتُهُ قَآئِمَةٌ فَضَحِكَتْ فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَقَ وَمِن وَرَاء إِسْحَقَ يَعْقُوبَ

71.             Waimraatuhu qaimatun fadahikat fabashsharnaha biishaqa wamin warai ishaqa yaAAqooba
Ibrahîm’s wife was also standing.  Hearing this she laughed.  Then WE gave her (a good news) of Ishâque and after Ishâque a good news of Ya'qûb.

قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَى أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَاْ عَجُوزٌ وَهَـذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا إِنَّ هَـذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ

72.             Qalat ya waylata aalidu waana AAajoozun wahatha baAAlee shaykhan inna hatha lashayon AAajeebun
She said (in astonishment): "Woe to me! Shall I bear a child now when I have become an old woman and my husband has also become an old man?  This is very strange thing."

قَالُواْ أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللّهِ رَحْمَتُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ

73.             Qaloo ataAAjabeena min amri Allahi rahmatu Allahi wabarakatuhu AAalaykum ahla albayti innahu hameedun majeedun
The Angel replied, "Do you surprise at the Decree of Allâh?  O household of Ibrahîm, the Mercy of Allâh and HIS Blessings are on you people, and surely Allâh is All-Praiseworthy and All-Glorious."

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّوْعُ وَجَاءتْهُ الْبُشْرَى يُجَادِلُنَا فِي قَوْمِ لُوطٍ

74.             Falamma thahaba AAan ibraheema alrrawAAu wajaathu albushra yujadiluna fee qawmi lootin
Then when Ibrahîm’s fear was gone and his heart was filled with joy (from the good news of children), then he began to argue with US in the matter of the people of Lout.

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُّنِيبٌ

75.             Inna ibraheema lahaleemun awwahun muneebun
In fact Ibrahîm was gentle and soft hearted person and in all circumstances used to turn to US.

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَذَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاء أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ وَإِنَّهُمْ آتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ

76.             Ya ibraheemu aAArid AAan hatha innahu qad jaa amru rabbika wainnahum ateehim AAathabun ghayru mardoodin
(Finally OUR Angels said to him) "O Ibrahîm, desist from it, the Commandment of your Râbb has been issued and now the torment will come on those people that could not be repelled by anyone."

وَلَمَّا جَاءتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَـذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ

77.             Walamma jaat rusuluna lootan seea bihim wadaqa bihim tharAAan waqala hatha yawmun AAaseebun
And when OUR Angels arrived to Lout, he was very upset by their arrival and (his) heart was distressed and (he) started saying today is a day of severe calamity.

وَجَاءهُ قَوْمُهُ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ هَـؤُلاء بَنَاتِي هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ فَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَلاَ تُخْزُونِ فِي ضَيْفِي أَلَيْسَ مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَّشِيدٌ

78.             Wajaahu qawmuhu yuhraAAoona ilayhi wamin qablu kanoo yaAAmaloona alssayyiati qala ya qawmi haolai banatee hunna atharu lakum faittaqoo Allaha wala tukhzooni fee dayfee alaysa minkum rajulun rasheedun
(No sooner the visitors came) The people of his nation rushed towards his home.  They had been previously addicted to such evil deeds (sodomy).  Lout said to them, "O people, here are my daughters, they are purer for you (if you marry them lawfully).  Fear Allâh and do not dishonor me in the matter of my guests.  Is there not any noble person among you?"

قَالُواْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ

79.             Qaloo laqad AAalimta ma lana fee banatika min haqqin wainnaka lataAAlamu ma nureedu
They replied, "You already know it that we have no desire of your daughters.  And you also know that what we want."

قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَى رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ

80.             Qala law anna lee bikum quwwatan aw awee ila ruknin shadeedin
Lout said: "Would that! I had the power to set you straight, or had any strong support to seek its refuge."

قَالُواْ يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُواْ إِلَيْكَ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ وَلاَ يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلاَّ امْرَأَتَكَ إِنَّهُ مُصِيبُهَا مَا أَصَابَهُمْ إِنَّ مَوْعِدَهُمُ الصُّبْحُ أَلَيْسَ الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ

81.             Qaloo ya lootu inna rusulu rabbika lan yasiloo ilayka faasri biahlika biqitAAin mina allayli wala yaltafit minkum ahadun illa imraataka innahu museebuha ma asabahum inna mawAAidahumu alssubhu alaysa alssubhu biqareebin
Then the Angels said to him, "O Lout! We are Angels sent by your Râbb, these people will not be able to harm you at all.  So you depart with your family in the last hours of the night.  And look -- none of you should see behind.  But your wife (will not go with you) because the same thing is going to afflict her which is going to afflict these people.  The morning time is fixed for their destruction.  ¾Morning is almost there!"

فَلَمَّا جَاء أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ

82.             Falamma jaa amruna jaAAalna AAaliyaha safilaha waamtarna AAalayha hijaratan min sijjeelin mandoodin
And when the time of OUR Commandment came then WE turned that town (of Sodom, in Palestine) upside down and rained continuously on them with the stones of baked clay

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٍ

83.             Musawwamatan AAinda rabbika wama hiya mina alththalimeena bibaAAeedin
Your Râbb had specifically marked each of it.  And such punishment is not far from the evildoers (Zâlimûn). (R) 7

وَإِلَى مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُواْ اللّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـهٍ غَيْرُهُ وَلاَ تَنقُصُواْ الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ إِنِّيَ أَرَاكُم بِخَيْرٍ وَإِنِّيَ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُّحِيطٍ

84.             Waila madyana akhahum shuAAayban qala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu wala tanqusoo almikyala waalmeezana innee arakum bikhayrin wainnee akhafu AAalaykum AAathaba yawmin muheetin
And towards the people of Madyan (Midian, name of a nation) WE sent their brother Shu'aib.  He said: "O people of my nation, worship Allâh you have no other deity (Ilâh) except HIM.  And do not give short measure and weight.  Today I am seeing you in prosperity, but I have fear that tomorrow such day will come on you; the torment of which will encircle everyone.

وَيَا قَوْمِ أَوْفُواْ الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلاَ تَبْخَسُواْ النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءهُمْ وَلاَ تَعْثَوْاْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

85.             Waya qawmi awfoo almikyala waalmeezana bialqisti wala tabkhasoo alnnasa ashyaahum wala taAAthaw fee alardi mufsideena
And O people of my nation give full measure and weight in all fairness and do not give loss to people in their things and do not keep spreading mischief on the earth.

بَقِيَّةُ اللّهِ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ وَمَا أَنَاْ عَلَيْكُم بِحَفِيظٍ

86.             Baqiyyatu Allahi khayrun lakum in kuntum mumineena wama ana AAalaykum bihafeethin
The savings given by Allâh are best for you if you are the believers.  And after all I am not watcher over you."

قَالُواْ يَا شُعَيْبُ أَصَلاَتُكَ تَأْمُرُكَ أَن نَّتْرُكَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا أَوْ أَن نَّفْعَلَ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا مَا نَشَاء إِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ الْحَلِيمُ الرَّشِيدُ

87.             Qaloo ya shuAAaybu asalatuka tamuruka an natruka ma yaAAbudu abaona aw an nafAAala fee amwalina ma nashao innaka laanta alhaleemu alrrasheedu
They replied: "O Shu'aib, does your prayer (Salât) teach you that we should leave all those deities whom our forefathers used to worship?  Or that we should not have authority to spend from our wealth according to our wishes?  Just you are the only generous and righteous person left"!

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىَ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّي وَرَزَقَنِي مِنْهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًا وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَى مَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلاَّ الإِصْلاَحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلاَّ بِاللّهِ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ

88.             Qala ya qawmi araaytum in kuntu AAala bayyinatin min rabbee warazaqanee minhu rizqan hasanan wama oreedu an okhalifakum ila ma anhakum AAanhu in oreedu illa alislaha ma istataAAtu wama tawfeeqee illa biAllahi AAalayhi tawakkaltu wailayhi oneebu
Shu'aib said, "O people, you should think yourselves that if I was on clear evidence from my Râbb and then HE also gave me best provisions from HIMSELF (then after this how can I be a partner with you in your misdeeds and unlawful practices?) and I do not want it at all that from which I forbid you -- I commit that myself.  I only want to reform to the best of my power.  And whatever I want to do depends upon the favor of Allâh -- I have trusted HIM and I turn to HIM in everything.

وَيَا قَوْمِ لاَ يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِي أَن يُصِيبَكُم مِّثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَالِحٍ وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِّنكُم بِبَعِيدٍ

89.             Waya qawmi la yajrimannakum shiqaqee an yuseebakum mithlu ma asaba qawma noohin aw qawma hoodin aw qawma salihin wama qawmu lootin minkum bibaAAeedin
And O people of my nation, your stubbornness (Shiqâq) against me should not bring the situation that finally you should suffer the same torment that had come to the people of Nûh or Hûd or Sâlih.  And the nation of Lout is not far off from you.

وَاسْتَغْفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُواْ إِلَيْهِ إِنَّ رَبِّي رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ

90.             Waistaghfiroo rabbakum thumma tooboo ilayhi inna rabbee raheemun wadoodun
Look! Ask forgiveness of your Râbb and return to HIM (in repentance), no doubt my Râbb is Most Merciful and Loves HIS Creation."

قَالُواْ يَا شُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ كَثِيرًا مِّمَّا تَقُولُ وَإِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِينَا ضَعِيفًا وَلَوْلاَ رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنَاكَ وَمَا أَنتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيزٍ

91.             Qaloo ya shuAAaybu ma nafqahu katheeran mimma taqoolu wainna lanaraka feena daAAeefan walawla rahtuka larajamnaka wama anta AAalayna biAAazeezin
They replied, "O Shu'aib, we do not understand most of your things, and we see that you are weak person among us, if you have no brotherhood then we should have stoned you to death long before, you do not have enough power to overcome us."

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَهْطِي أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ اللّهِ وَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ وَرَاءكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا إِنَّ رَبِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ

92.             Qala ya qawmi arahtee aAAazzu AAalaykum mina Allahi waittakhathtumoohu waraakum thihriyyan inna rabbee bima taAAmaloona muheetun
Shu’aib said: "O people, do you consider my brotherhood more powerful than Allâh that you (frightened from my brotherhood and) completely ignored Allâh?  Know it very well that whatever you are doing is not beyond the grip of Allâh.

وَيَا قَوْمِ اعْمَلُواْ عَلَى مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّي عَامِلٌ سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَمَنْ هُوَ كَاذِبٌ وَارْتَقِبُواْ إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ رَقِيبٌ

93.             Waya qawmi iAAmaloo AAala makanatikum innee AAamilun sawfa taAAlamoona man yateehi AAathabun yukhzeehi waman huwa kathibun wairtaqiboo inne maAAakum raqeebun
O people of my nation, you keep acting according to your way and I will keep doing on my way, soon you will come to know that on whom the humiliated torment comes and who is a liar. You should wait and I am also waiting with you."

وَلَمَّا جَاء أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا شُعَيْبًا وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مَّنَّا وَأَخَذَتِ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ الصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُواْ فِي دِيَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ

94.             Walamma jaa amruna najjayna shuAAayban waallatheena amanoo maAAahu birahmatin minna waakhathati allatheena thalamoo alssayhatu faasbahoo fee diyarihim jathimeena
Finally when the time of OUR Verdict came then WE with OUR Mercy saved Shu'aib and his companion believers and those people who had committed cruelty a dreadful shock (As-Saîhah) seized them in such a way that they remained laying lifeless in their towns

كَأَن لَّمْ يَغْنَوْاْ فِيهَا أَلاَ بُعْدًا لِّمَدْيَنَ كَمَا بَعِدَتْ ثَمُودُ

95.             Kaan lam yaghnaw feeha ala buAAdan limadyana kama baAAidat thamoodu
As if they had never lived there.  Listen! The people of Madyan (Midian) were also thrown away as the people of Thamûd were thrown away. (R) 8

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَى بِآيَاتِنَا وَسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ

96.             Walaqad arsalna moosa biayatina wasultanin mubeenin
And WE sent Mûsa with OUR Signs (Ayât) and a clear authority of appointment

إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاتَّبَعُواْ أَمْرَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَا أَمْرُ فِرْعَوْنَ بِرَشِيدٍ

97.             Ila firAAawna wamalaihi faittabaAAoo amra firAAawna wama amru firAAawna birasheedin
Towards Fir'aun and the chiefs of his kingdom, but they followed the order of Fir'aun, whereas the order of Fir'aun was not righteous.

يَقْدُمُ قَوْمَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَأَوْرَدَهُمُ النَّارَ وَبِئْسَ الْوِرْدُ الْمَوْرُودُ

98.             Yaqdumu qawmahu yawma alqiyamati faawradahumu alnnara wabisa alwirdu almawroodu
On the day of Resurrection he will be leading his people, and in his leadership will lead them towards the Hell-Fire.  What an evil destination is it to which anyone reaches!

وَأُتْبِعُواْ فِي هَـذِهِ لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِئْسَ الرِّفْدُ الْمَرْفُودُ

99.             WaotbiAAoo fee hathihi laAAnatan wayawma alqiyamati bisa alrrifdu almarfoodu
And a curse was on those people in this worldly life and will also be on the Day of Resurrection. What an evil reward is it for anyone to receive!

ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَنبَاء الْقُرَى نَقُصُّهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهَا قَآئِمٌ وَحَصِيدٌ

100.          Thalika min anbai alqura naqussuhu AAalayka minha qaimun wahaseedun
This is a life history of some of the towns, which WE are narrating to you.  Among those (towns) some are still standing and some are already harvested.

وَمَا ظَلَمْنَاهُمْ وَلَـكِن ظَلَمُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَمَا أَغْنَتْ عَنْهُمْ آلِهَتُهُمُ الَّتِي يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ لِّمَّا جَاء أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ وَمَا زَادُوهُمْ غَيْرَ تَتْبِيبٍ

101.          Wama thalamnahum walakin thalamoo anfusahum fama aghnat AAanhum alihatuhumu allatee yadAAoona min dooni Allahi min shayin lamma jaa amru rabbika wama zadoohum ghayra tatbeebin
WE have not done any wrong to them, they have done wrong to themselves and when the Verdict of Allâh came then their those deities (âliha) whom they used to worship except Allâh could not at all benefit them and they did not do any good to them except destruction and ruin.

وَكَذَلِكَ أَخْذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَا أَخَذَ الْقُرَى وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٌ إِنَّ أَخْذَهُ أَلِيمٌ شَدِيدٌ

102.          Wakathalika akhthu rabbika itha akhatha alqura wahiya thalimatun inna akhthahu aleemun shadeedun
And when your Râbb seizes any sinful town then HIS grip is like this, in fact HIS grip is very severe and painful.

إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَةً لِّمَنْ خَافَ عَذَابَ الآخِرَةِ ذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّجْمُوعٌ لَّهُ النَّاسُ وَذَلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّشْهُودٌ

103.          Inna fee thalika laayatan liman khafa AAathaba alakhirati thalika yawmun majmooAAun lahu alnnasu wathalika yawmun mashhoodun
The truth is that there is a sign (lesson) in it for every person who fears the torment of the Hereafter.  It will be a day when all people will be gathered together and then whatever will happen that day will happen in front of everyone (everyone will witness it).

وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُ إِلاَّ لِأَجَلٍ مَّعْدُودٍ

104.          Wama nuakhkhiruhu illa liajalin maAAdoodin
WE are not delaying to bring it for a long time thus a fixed term is appointed for it.

يَوْمَ يَأْتِ لاَ تَكَلَّمُ نَفْسٌ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ فَمِنْهُمْ شَقِيٌّ وَسَعِيدٌ

105.          Yawma yati la takallamu nafsun illa biithnihi faminhum shaqiyyun wasaAAeedin
When that (Day) will come then no person will have the courage to speak, except this that says something with the permission of Allâh.  Then on this day some people will be unfortunate and some fortunate (blessed).

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ شَقُواْ فَفِي النَّارِ لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَشَهِيقٌ

106.          Faamma allatheena shaqoo fafee alnnari lahum feeha zafeerun washaheequn
Those who will be unfortunates they will go into the Hell-Fire (where with the severity of thirst and heat) they will whoop (short of breath) and will murmur (hiss)

خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأَرْضُ إِلاَّ مَا شَاء رَبُّكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ

107.          Khalideena feeha ma damati alssamawatu waalardu illa ma shaa rabbuka inna rabbaka faAAAAalun lima yureedu
And they will remain in this condition forever, as long as the skies and the earth are established (present), unless your Râbb Wills something else (ordains otherwise).   No doubt your Râbb has full authority to do whatever HE Wants.

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ سُعِدُواْ فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأَرْضُ إِلاَّ مَا شَاء رَبُّكَ عَطَاء غَيْرَ مَجْذُوذٍ

108.          Waamma allatheena suAAidoo fafee aljannati khalideena feeha ma damati alssamawatu waalardu illa ma shaa rabbuka AAataan ghayra majthoothin
As far those people who will be fortunate (blessed), they will go into the Paradise and will stay there forever, as long as the skies and the earth are established, unless your Râbb Wants something else (ordains otherwise).  They will get such a reward that will never end.

فَلاَ تَكُ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِّمَّا يَعْبُدُ هَـؤُلاء مَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلاَّ كَمَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُهُم مِّن قَبْلُ وَإِنَّا لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ غَيْرَ مَنقُوصٍ

109.          Fala taku fee miryatin mimma yaAAbudu haolai ma yaAAbudoona illa kama yaAAbudu abaohum min qablu wainna lamuwaffoohum naseebahum ghayra manqoosin
Therefore O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), you should not be in any doubt about those deities whom these people are worshiping.  They are (blindly) worshiping the same way as their forefathers used to worship before (them), and WE shall give them their full share (of punishment) without any reduction. (R) 9

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ فَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ وَلَوْلاَ كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ

110.          Walaqad atayna moosa alkitaba faikhtulifa feehi walawla kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laqudiya baynahum wainnahum lafee shakkin minhu mureebun
WE have also given the Book to Mûsa before it and a dispute was arisen about it as well (just as today they are doing about this Book which WE have given to you, Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). If your Râbb had not already decided one-thing then the matter would have been decided long before between those who differ.  It is fact that those people are in doubt and uncertainty about it (Al-Qur'ân).

وَإِنَّ كُـلاًّ لَّمَّا لَيُوَفِّيَنَّهُمْ رَبُّكَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ إِنَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ

111.          Wainna kullan lamma layuwaffiyannahum rabbuka aAAmalahum innahu bima yaAAmaloona khabeerun
And it is also fact that your Râbb will recompense them in full for their deeds, surely HE is Aware of all their deeds.

فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ وَمَن تَابَ مَعَكَ وَلاَ تَطْغَوْاْ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

112.          Faistaqim kama omirta waman taba maAAaka wala tatghaw innahu bima taAAmaloona baseerun
Therefore O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), you and your (those) companions who have return (to Faith and Obedience from Kufr and rebellions), stand firm uprightly on the straight path as you have been commanded.  And do not cross the limits of worship.  Whatever you are doing your Râbb is watching over it.

وَلاَ تَرْكَنُواْ إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاء ثُمَّ لاَ تُنصَرُونَ

113.          Wala tarkanoo ila allatheena thalamoo fatamassakumu alnnaru wama lakum min dooni Allahi min awliyaa thumma la tunsaroona
Never incline towards these cruel people otherwise (you) will come in the reach of Hell-Fire and you will not find any helper or protector who can save you from Allâh and no help will reach you from anywhere.

وَأَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّـيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ

114.          Waaqimi alssalata tarafayi alnnahari wazulafan mina allayli inna alhasanati yuthhibna alssayyiati thalika thikra lilththakireena
And Look! Establish prayer (Salât) at both the ends of the day and in the early part of the night.  In fact the good deeds replace the bad deeds; this is a reminder for those people who remember Allâh.

وَاصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

115.          Waisbir fainna Allaha la yudeeAAu ajra almuhsineena
And be patient, Allâh does not waste the reward of the righteous people.

فَلَوْلاَ كَانَ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ أُوْلُواْ بَقِيَّةٍ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْفَسَادِ فِي الأَرْضِ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً مِّمَّنْ أَنجَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَاتَّبَعَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مَا أُتْرِفُواْ فِيهِ وَكَانُواْ مُجْرِمِينَ

116.          Falawla kana mina alqurooni min qablikum oloo baqiyyatin yanhawna AAani alfasadi fee alardi illa qaleelan mimman anjayna minhum waittabaAAa allatheena thalamoo ma otrifoo feehi wakanoo mujrimeena
Then why there had not been such well-wishers among those nations, which were before you who prohibited the people to make mischief (Al-Fasâd) on the earth?  Such people were very small in numbers, whom WE saved from among those nations, otherwise the wrong doers were after those pleasures of life which were given to them in abundance and they became confirmed criminals (Mujrimûn).

وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ لِيُهْلِكَ الْقُرَى بِظُلْمٍ وَأَهْلُهَا مُصْلِحُونَ

117.          Wama kana rabbuka liyuhlika alqura bithulmin waahluha muslihoona
Your Râbb is not the One WHO demolishes the towns without any reason whereas its people are reformers.

وَلَوْ شَاء رَبُّكَ لَجَعَلَ النَّاسَ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ

118.          Walaw shaa rabbuka lajaAAala alnnasa ommatan wahidatan wala yazaloona mukhtalifeena
No doubt if your Râbb wanted HE could had made all mankind as one group (Ummâh), but now they will keep following different ways and

إِلاَّ مَن رَّحِمَ رَبُّكَ وَلِذَلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ لأَمْلأنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ

119.          Illa man rahima rabbuka walithalika khalaqahum watammat kalimatu rabbika laamlaanna jahannama mina aljinnati waalnnasi ajmaAAeena
Only those people will be saved from evils on whom your Râbb has bestowed HIS Mercy.  For this (freedom of choice and trial) HE had created them.  And the Word of your Râbb has been fulfilled, which HE had said that I would fill the Hell with both jinns and human.

وَكُـلاًّ نَّقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنبَاء الرُّسُلِ مَا نُثَبِّتُ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ وَجَاءكَ فِي هَـذِهِ الْحَقُّ وَمَوْعِظَةٌ وَذِكْرَى لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

120.          Wakullan naqussu AAalayka min anbai alrrusuli ma nuthabbitu bihi fuadaka wajaaka fee hathihi alhaqqu wamawAAithatun wathikra lilmumineena
And O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), the life histories of the Rasools WE are telling you -- these are those things by which WE strengthen your heart.  From these you have gotten the knowledge of Truth, and those who brought Faith received an advice and awakening.

وَقُل لِّلَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ اعْمَلُواْ عَلَى مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنَّا عَامِلُونَ

121.          Waqul lillatheena la yuminoona iAAmaloo AAala makanatikum inna AAamiloona
As far those people who do not bring Faith, tell them that you keep working according to your way and we keep doing on our way,

وَانتَظِرُوا إِنَّا مُنتَظِرُونَ

122.          Waintathiroo inna muntathiroona
You wait for the consequences and we are also waiting.

وَلِلّهِ غَيْبُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُ الأَمْرُ كُلُّهُ فَاعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

123.          Walillahi ghaybu alssamawati waalardi wailayhi yurjaAAu alamru kulluhu faoAAbudhu watawakkal AAalayhi wama rabbuka bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
Whatever is hidden in the skies and in the earth that all is in the Power of Allâh and all the matters return to HIM (for decision).  So O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), you should serve HIM and put your trust in HIM, whatever you are doing your Râbb is not unaware of it. (R) 10

 “Yûsuf” – (Makki - 12^th Surah)

Total Verses: 111

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi
(I) Begin with the Name of Allâh WHO is Most Loving and Most Merciful

الر تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ

1.                Alif-Lâm-Râ tilka ayatu alkitabi almubeenu
(Aliflamra -- these letters are called prefixes, muqatta’at, only Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala, knows the meanings).  These are the Verses of the Book (Al-Qur'ân) which clearly explains its objectives.

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

2.                Inna anzalnahu quranan AAarabiyyan laAAallakum taAAqiloona
WE have Revealed it as Qur'ân in an Arabic language so that you (O Arabs) can understand it well.

نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَـذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ

3.                Nahnu naqussu AAalayka ahsana alqasasi bima awhayna ilayka hatha alqurana wain kunta min qablihi lamina alghafileena
O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), WE describe to you the facts and the events in the best manners by revealing this Al-Qur'ân to you otherwise you were completely unaware of (these things) before it.

إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ

4.               Ith qala yoosufu liabeehi ya abati innee raaytu ahada AAashara kawkaban waalshshamsa waalqamara raaytuhum lee sajideena
This is a dialogue (talk) of that time when Yûsuf said to his father, "O my father, I have seen a dream that there are eleven stars and a sun and a moon and they all are bowing down before me."

قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لاَ تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَى إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُواْ لَكَ كَيْدًا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلإِنسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ

5.               Qala ya bunayya la taqsus ruyaka AAala ikhwatika fayakeedoo laka kaydan inna alshshaytana lilinsani AAaduwwun mubeenun
In response; his father said, "O my son, do not tell your dream to your brothers otherwise they will become your enemies.  The fact is that Satan (Shaitân) is an open enemy of man.

وَكَذَلِكَ يَجْتَبِيكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الأَحَادِيثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى آلِ يَعْقُوبَ كَمَا أَتَمَّهَا عَلَى أَبَوَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَقَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

6.               Wakathalika yajtabeeka rabbuka wayuAAallimuka min taweeli alahadeethi wayutimmu niAAmatahu AAalayka waAAala ali yaAAqooba kama atammaha AAala abawayka min qablu ibraheema waishaqa inna rabbaka AAaleemun hakeemun
And so will happen (as you have seen in the dream that) your Râbb will choose you (for HIS task) and will teach you to interpret the real meanings of things (give you the vision) and will perfect HIS Favor on you and on the children of Ya'qûb in the same way before this as HE has perfected on your forefathers, Ibrahîm and Ishâque, certainly your Râbb is All-Knowing and All-Wise." (R) 11

لَّقَدْ كَانَ فِي يُوسُفَ وَإِخْوَتِهِ آيَاتٌ لِّلسَّائِلِينَ

7.                Laqad kana fee yoosufa waikhwatihi ayatun lilssaileena
The fact is that in the story of Yûsuf and his brothers there are many signs (lessons) for those who inquire.

إِذْ قَالُواْ لَيُوسُفُ وَأَخُوهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَبِينَا مِنَّا وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّ أَبَانَا لَفِي ضَلاَلٍ مُّبِينٍ

8.                Ith qaloo layoosufu waakhoohu ahabbu ila abeena minna wanahnu AAusbatun inna abana lafee dalalin mubeenin
This story starts like this that his brothers said to each other, "This Yûsuf and his brother (Benjamin), both are more loved by our father than us, whereas we are strong group ('Usbah), the truth is that our father is completely gone astray.

اقْتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ أَوِ اطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُواْ مِن بَعْدِهِ قَوْمًا صَالِحِينَ

9.                Oqtuloo yoosufa awi itrahoohu ardan yakhlu lakum wajhu abeekum watakoonoo min baAAdihi qawman saliheena
Let us kill Yûsuf or throw him somewhere so that the attention of your father diverts only towards you.  After doing this task then (we will) become righteous."

قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مَّنْهُمْ لاَ تَقْتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ وَأَلْقُوهُ فِي غَيَابَةِ الْجُبِّ يَلْتَقِطْهُ بَعْضُ السَّيَّارَةِ إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ

10.            Qala qailun minhum la taqtuloo yoosufa waalqoohu fee ghayabati aljubbi yaltaqithu baAAdu alssayyarati in kuntum faAAileena
At this one of them spoke out: "Do not kill Yûsuf, if you really want to do anything then throw him into some dark well, some traveling caravan will take him away."

قَالُواْ يَا أَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لاَ تَأْمَنَّا عَلَى يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَنَاصِحُونَ

11.            Qaloo ya abana ma laka la tamanna AAala yoosufa wainna lahu lanasihoona
After this discussion they went to the father and said, "O father, Why is this that you do not trust us in the matter of Yûsuf, whereas we are his true well-wishers?"

أَرْسِلْهُ مَعَنَا غَدًا يَرْتَعْ وَيَلْعَبْ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

12.             Arsilhu maAAana ghadan yartaAA wayalAAab wainna lahu lahafithoona
Tomorrow send him with us, (so that) he will eat freely and delight his heart with play and fun. We are present for his protection."

قَالَ إِنِّي لَيَحْزُنُنِي أَن تَذْهَبُواْ بِهِ وَأَخَافُ أَن يَأْكُلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَأَنتُمْ عَنْهُ غَافِلُونَ

13.            Qala innee layahzununee an thathhaboo bihi waakhafu an yakulahu alththibu waantum AAanhu ghafiloona
Father (Ya'qûb) said, "Your taking him away is hard on me and I have fear that somehow a wolf should not eat him up while you are negligent of him."

قَالُواْ لَئِنْ أَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّا إِذًا لَّخَاسِرُونَ

14.             Qaloo lain akalahu alththibu wanahnu AAusbatun inna ithan lakhasiroona
They replied, "If a wolf eats him up in our presence, while we are strong group ('Usbah), then we would be worthless people."

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُواْ بِهِ وَأَجْمَعُواْ أَن يَجْعَلُوهُ فِي غَيَابَةِ الْجُبِّ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُم بِأَمْرِهِمْ هَـذَا وَهُمْ لاَ يَشْعُرُونَ

15.             Falamma thahaboo bihi waajmaAAoo an yajAAaloohu fee ghayabati aljubbi waawhayna ilayhi latunabiannahum biamrihim hatha wahum la yashAAuroona
This way after insisting when they took him away and they decided that they leave him in some dark well, then WE revealed to Yûsuf, "A time will come when you will make these people to realize about their this action, they are unaware of the results of their action."

وَجَاؤُواْ أَبَاهُمْ عِشَاء يَبْكُونَ

16.             Wajaoo abahum AAishaan yabkoona
In the evening they came to their father crying and beating (themselves) and said,

قَالُواْ يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوسُفَ عِندَ مَتَاعِنَا فَأَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَمَا أَنتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ لِّنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صَادِقِينَ

17.             Qaloo ya abana inna thahabna nastabiqu watarakna yoosufa AAinda mataAAina faakalahu alththibu wama anta bimuminin lana walaw kunna sadiqeena
"O father, We were competing in race with one another and we left Yûsuf by our belongings in the mean time a wolf came and ate him.  You will never believe us even though we may be truthful."

وَجَآؤُوا عَلَى قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ وَاللّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَى مَا تَصِفُونَ

18.             Wajaoo AAala qameesihi bidamin kathibin qala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amran fasabrun jameelun waAllahu almustaAAanu AAala ma tasifoona
And they had brought his shirt stained with false blood.  After listening this their father said, "However, your souls have made this difficult task easy for you.  Well, (I) shall be patient and shall do it very well, the thing which you are fabricating on that the help can only be requested from Allâh (Alone)."

وَجَاءتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُواْ وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَى دَلْوَهُ قَالَ يَا بُشْرَى هَـذَا غُلاَمٌ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَاعَةً وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

19.             Wajaat sayyaratun faarsaloo waridahum faadla dalwahu qala ya bushra hatha ghulamun waasarroohu bidaAAatan waAllahu AAaleemun bima yaAAmaloona
There a caravan came and they sent their water-carrier to bring water.  As water-carrier let down his bucket into the well (seeing Yûsuf) he cried out, "Congratulation -- there is a boy here."  Those people hide him considering a thing of trade, whereas whatever they were doing Allâh was Aware of it.

وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍ بَخْسٍ دَرَاهِمَ مَعْدُودَةٍ وَكَانُواْ فِيهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِينَ

20.             Washarawhu bithamanin bakhsin darahima maAAdoodatin wakanoo feehi mina alzzahideena
Finally they sold him for very low price, for a few Dirhams (name of currency) as they were not hoping a big price for him. (R) 12

وَقَالَ الَّذِي اشْتَرَاهُ مِن مِّصْرَ لاِمْرَأَتِهِ أَكْرِمِي مَثْوَاهُ عَسَى أَن يَنفَعَنَا أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ وَلَدًا وَكَذَلِكَ مَكَّنِّا لِيُوسُفَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الأَحَادِيثِ وَاللّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَى أَمْرِهِ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

21.             Waqala allathee ishtarahu min misra liimraatihi akrimee mathwahu AAasa an yanfaAAana aw nattakhithahu waladan wakathalika makkanna liyoosufa fee alardi walinuAAallimahu min taweeli alahadeethi waAllahu ghalibun AAala amrihi walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona
The Egyptian who bought him said to his wife, "Keep him very well, it is quite possible that he may prove to be profitable for us or we adopt him as a son."  In this way WE created the situation to establish Yûsuf in that land and made the arrangements to teach him the understanding of affairs. Allâh does HIS things, but most of the people do not know it.

وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ آتَيْنَاهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

22.             Walamma balagha ashuddahu ataynahu hukman waAAilman wakathalika najzee almuhsineena
And when he reached his full maturity then WE gave him decision power and knowledge, this is how WE reward the pious (Muhsinûn) people.

وَرَاوَدَتْهُ الَّتِي هُوَ فِي بَيْتِهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِ وَغَلَّقَتِ الأَبْوَابَ وَقَالَتْ هَيْتَ لَكَ قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللّهِ إِنَّهُ رَبِّي أَحْسَنَ مَثْوَايَ إِنَّهُ لاَ يُفْلِحُ الظَّالِمُونَ

23.             Warawadathu allatee huwa fee baytiha AAan nafsihi waghallaqati alabwaba waqalat hayta laka qala maAAatha Allahi innahu rabbee ahsana mathwaya innahu la yuflihu alththalimoona
The woman in whose house he was (living) she started to seduce him and one day she closed the doors and said, "Come on." Yûsuf said, "May Allâh protect, my Râbb has given me good destination (and I do this act!) such wrongdoers never prosper."

وَلَقَدْ هَمَّتْ بِهِ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوْلا أَن رَّأَى بُرْهَانَ رَبِّهِ كَذَلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ السُّوءَ وَالْفَحْشَاء إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُخْلَصِينَ

24.             Walaqad hammat bihi wahamma biha lawla an raa burhana rabbihi kathalika linasrifa AAanhu alssooa waalfahshaa innahu min AAibadina almukhlaseena
She advanced towards him and Yûsuf would have also advanced toward her if he has not seen the proof of his Râbb.  This happened, so that WE should remove indecency and evil from him, in fact he was from among OUR chosen people.

وَاسُتَبَقَا الْبَابَ وَقَدَّتْ قَمِيصَهُ مِن دُبُرٍ وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ قَالَتْ مَا جَزَاء مَنْ أَرَادَ بِأَهْلِكَ سُوَءًا إِلاَّ أَن يُسْجَنَ أَوْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

25.             Waistabaqa albaba waqaddat qameesahu min duburin waalfaya sayyidaha lada albabi qalat ma jazao man arada biahlika sooan illa an yusjana aw AAathabun aleemun
Eventually Yûsuf and she ran towards the door one behind the other and she ripped Yûsuf’s shirt (by pulling) from the back.  They both found her husband at the door.  Seeing him the woman started saying: "What is the punishment for that person who has bad intention towards your wife? What else could be except this that he should be put in prison or a painful torment should be given to him?"

قَالَ هِيَ رَاوَدَتْنِي عَن نَّفْسِي وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا إِن كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الكَاذِبِينَ

26.             Qala hiya rawadatnee AAan nafsee washahida shahidun min ahliha in kana qameesuhu qudda min qubulin fasadaqat wahuwa mina alkathibeena
Yûsuf said: "She was trying to seduce me." A person from her family presented (an orderly) testimony that: "If Yûsuf’s shirt is torn from the front then she is truthful and he (Yûsuf) is a liar,

وَإِنْ كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ فَكَذَبَتْ وَهُوَ مِن الصَّادِقِينَ

27.             Wain kana qameesuhu qudda min duburin fakathabat wahuwa mina alssadiqeena
And if his shirt is torn from the back then she is a liar and he (Yûsuf) is truthful."

فَلَمَّا رَأَى قَمِيصَهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ قَالَ إِنَّهُ مِن كَيْدِكُنَّ إِنَّ كَيْدَكُنَّ عَظِيمٌ

28.             Falamma raa qameesahu qudda min duburin qala innahu min kaydikunna inna kaydakunna AAatheemun
When the husband saw that Yûsuf's shirt is torn from the back then he said: "These are the tricks of you women, certainly your tricks are very violent.

يُوسُفُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَـذَا وَاسْتَغْفِرِي لِذَنبِكِ إِنَّكِ كُنتِ مِنَ الْخَاطِئِينَ

29.             Yoosufu aAArid AAan hatha waistaghfiree lithanbiki innaki kunti mina alkhatieena
Yûsuf, let this matter go.  And O woman, you should beg forgiveness for your mistake, in fact you were sinful." (R) 13

وَقَالَ نِسْوَةٌ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ امْرَأَةُ الْعَزِيزِ تُرَاوِدُ فَتَاهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِ قَدْ شَغَفَهَا حُبًّا إِنَّا لَنَرَاهَا فِي ضَلاَلٍ مُّبِينٍ

30.             Waqala niswatun fee almadeenati imraatu alAAazeezi turawidu fataha AAan nafsihi qad shaghafaha hubban inna lanaraha fee dalalin mubeenin
The women of the city started circulating the story among themselves that:"The wife of Al-'Azîz has been seducing her young slave, she has madly fallen in loves with him, in our opinion she is doing big mistake."

فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِمَكْرِهِنَّ أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَعْتَدَتْ لَهُنَّ مُتَّكَأً وَآتَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِّنْهُنَّ سِكِّينًا وَقَالَتِ اخْرُجْ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ وَقُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلّهِ مَا هَـذَا بَشَرًا إِنْ هَـذَا إِلاَّ مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ

31.             Falamma samiAAat bimakrihinna arsalat ilayhinna waaAAtadat lahunna muttakaan waatat kulla wahidatin minhunna sikkeenan waqalati okhruj AAalayhinna falamma raaynahu akbarnahu waqattaAAna aydiyahunna waqulna hasha lillahi ma hatha basharan in hatha illa malakun kareemun
When she heard their cunning talk, she invited them and arranged a comfortable feast for them and in this feast placed a knife in front of everyone, (then right at that moment when they were cutting and eating the fruits), she asked Yûsuf to come out before them.  When those women saw him, they were so astonished and they cut their hands and exclaimed spontaneously "Allâh forbid!  This person is not human being, he is some noble angel."

قَالَتْ فَذَلِكُنَّ الَّذِي لُمْتُنَّنِي فِيهِ وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدتُّهُ عَن نَّفْسِهِ فَاسَتَعْصَمَ وَلَئِن لَّمْ يَفْعَلْ مَا آمُرُهُ لَيُسْجَنَنَّ وَلَيَكُونًا مِّنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ

32.             Qalat fathalikunna allathee lumtunnanee feehi walaqad rawadtuhu AAan nafsihi faistAAsama walain lam yafAAal ma amuruhu layusjananna walayakoonan mina alssaghireena
Aziz’s wife said: "Have you seen, this is the person about whom you were accusing me (for his love).  No doubt I did try to seduce him but he escaped, if he will not obey me he will be sent to prison and will be disgraced."

قَالَ رَبِّ السِّجْنُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا يَدْعُونَنِي إِلَيْهِ وَإِلاَّ تَصْرِفْ عَنِّي كَيْدَهُنَّ أَصْبُ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَكُن مِّنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

33.             Qala rabbi alssijnu ahabbu ilayya mimma yadAAoonanee ilayhi wailla tasrif AAannee kaydahunna asbu ilayhinna waakun mina aljahileena
Yûsuf said: "O my Râbb! Prison is acceptable to me as compare to it that I do that act which these people want from me (to do).  And if YOU did not turn away their plot from me then I will be trapped in their tricks and will be included among the ignorants."¾

فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ فَصَرَفَ عَنْهُ كَيْدَهُنَّ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

34.             Faistajaba lahu rabbuhu fasarafa AAanhu kaydahunna innahu huwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu
His Râbb accepted his prayer and turned away the tricks of those women from him, no doubt HE is the One WHO Listens to everyone and Knows everything.

ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوُاْ الآيَاتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُ حَتَّى حِينٍ

35.             Thumma bada lahum min baAAdi ma raawoo alayati layasjununnahu hatta heenin
Then it occurred to those people to put him in a prison for certain time period whereas they had seen all the proofs (of his innocence and of the guilt of their woman). (R) 14

وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ السِّجْنَ فَتَيَانَ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَآ إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَعْصِرُ خَمْرًا وَقَالَ الآخَرُ إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَحْمِلُ فَوْقَ رَأْسِي خُبْزًا تَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِنْهُ نَبِّئْنَا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

36.             Wadakhala maAAahu alssijna fatayani qala ahaduhuma innee aranee aAAsiru khamran waqala alakharu innee aranee ahmilu fawqa rasee khubzan takulu alttayru minhu nabbina bitaweelihi inna naraka mina almuhsineena
Two other salves also entered in the prison with him.  One day -- one of them said: "I have seen a dream that I am pressing wine."  The other said: "I have seen that breads are on my head and birds are eating them." They both said: "Tell us its interpretation -- we see that you are a pious person (Muhsinûn)."

قَالَ لاَ يَأْتِيكُمَا طَعَامٌ تُرْزَقَانِهِ إِلاَّ نَبَّأْتُكُمَا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ قَبْلَ أَن يَأْتِيكُمَا ذَلِكُمَا مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِي رَبِّي إِنِّي تَرَكْتُ مِلَّةَ قَوْمٍ لاَّ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَهُم بِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ

37.             Qala la yateekuma taAAamun turzaqanihi illa nabbatukuma bitaweelihi qabla an yatiyakuma thalikuma mimma AAallamanee rabbee innee taraktu millata qawmin la yuminoona biAllahi wahum bialakhirati hum kafiroona
Yûsuf said: "The food you get here before it comes -- I will tell you the interpretation of these dreams.  This is from that knowledge which my Râbb has given me.  The fact is that I have rejected the way of those people who do not bring Faith in Allâh and deny the Hereafter (the Kan'âniûn of Egypt who were polytheists and used to worship sun and other false deities),

وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَآئِـي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ مَا كَانَ لَنَا أَن نُّشْرِكَ بِاللّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ ذَلِكَ مِن فَضْلِ اللّهِ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يَشْكُرُونَ

38.             WaittabaAAtu millata abaee ibraheema waishaqa wayaAAqooba ma kana lana an nushrika biAllahi min shayin thalika min fadli Allahi AAalayna waAAala alnnasi walakinna akthara alnnasi la yashkuroona
I have adopted the way of my forefathers, Ibrahîm, Ishâque and Ya'qûb.  This is not for us to associate anyone as partner with Allâh.  In fact it is the Grace of Allâh on us and on the entire mankind (that HE has not made us a servant of anyone else except HIMSELF) but most of the people do not express gratitude.

يَا صَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ أَأَرْبَابٌ مُّتَفَرِّقُونَ خَيْرٌ أَمِ اللّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ

39.             Ya sahibayi alssijni aarbabun mutafarriqoona khayrun ami Allahu alwahidu alqahharu
O companions of prison, you think yourselves that many different lords (Râbbs) are better or HE the One Allâh WHO is Omnipotent?

مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِهِ إِلاَّ أَسْمَاء سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنتُمْ وَآبَآؤُكُم مَّا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَانٍ إِنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلاَّ لِلّهِ أَمَرَ أَلاَّ تَعْبُدُواْ إِلاَّ إِيَّاهُ ذَلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

40.             Ma taAAbudoona min doonihi illa asmaan sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin ini alhukmu illa lillahi amara alla taAAbudoo illa iyyahu thalika alddeenu alqayyimu walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona
Whomsoever you are worshiping except HIM they are nothing more than mere some names which you and your forefathers have invented (forged), Allâh has not revealed any endorsement for them.  The power of domination is for none except Allâh.  It is HIS commandment that you should not worship anyone except HIM.  This is the true straightforward way of life, but most of the people do not know.

يَا صَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ أَمَّا أَحَدُكُمَا فَيَسْقِي رَبَّهُ خَمْرًا وَأَمَّا الآخَرُ فَيُصْلَبُ فَتَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِن رَّأْسِهِ قُضِيَ الأَمْرُ الَّذِي فِيهِ تَسْتَفْتِيَانِ

41.             Ya sahibayi alssijni amma ahadukuma fayasqee rabbahu khamran waamma alakharu fayuslabu fatakulu alttayru min rasihi qudiya alamru allathee feehi tastaftiyani
O companions of prison, the interpretation of your dreams is that one of you will serve wine to his lord (king of Egypt) as for the other, he will be hanged and birds will pinch and eat from his head.  The decision has been made about that thing which you were asking."

وَقَالَ لِلَّذِي ظَنَّ أَنَّهُ نَاجٍ مِّنْهُمَا اذْكُرْنِي عِندَ رَبِّكَ فَأَنسَاهُ الشَّيْطَانُ ذِكْرَ رَبِّهِ فَلَبِثَ فِي السِّجْنِ بِضْعَ سِنِينَ

42.             Waqala lillathee thanna annahu najin minhuma othkurnee AAinda rabbika faansahu alshshaytanu thikra rabbihi falabitha fee alssijni bidAAa sineena
Then to the one of them about whom he thought would be released Yûsuf said to him: "Tell about me to your lord (king of Egypt)."  But Shaitân made him so neglectful that he forgot to tell about him (Yûsuf) to his lord (king of Egypt) and Yûsuf remained in the prison for several years. (R) 15

وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ إِنِّي أَرَى سَبْعَ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعَ سُنبُلاَتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمَلأُ أَفْتُونِي فِي رُؤْيَايَ إِن كُنتُمْ لِلرُّؤْيَا تَعْبُرُونَ

43.             Waqala almaliku innee ara sabAAa baqaratin simanin yakuluhunna sabAAun AAijafun wasabAAa sunbulatin khudrin waokhara yabisatin ya ayyuha almalao aftoonee fee ruyaya in kuntum lilrruya taAAburoona
One day the king said: "I have seen a dream that there are seven fat cows, whom seven lean cows are eating, and there are seven green ears of corn and other seven are dry.  O people of the court, tell me the interpretation of this dream if you understand the meanings of dreams."

قَالُواْ أَضْغَاثُ أَحْلاَمٍ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَأْوِيلِ الأَحْلاَمِ بِعَالِمِينَ

44.             Qaloo adghathu ahlamin wama nahnu bitaweeli alahlami biAAalimeena
The people said: "These are the things of confused night-mares and we do not know the meanings of such dreams."

وَقَالَ الَّذِي نَجَا مِنْهُمَا وَادَّكَرَ بَعْدَ أُمَّةٍ أَنَاْ أُنَبِّئُكُم بِتَأْوِيلِهِ فَأَرْسِلُونِ

45.             Waqala allathee naja minhuma waiddakara baAAda ommatin ana onabbiokum bitaweelihi faarsilooni
From among those two prisoners one who was released and he now remembered the thing after a long time, he said: "I am going to tell you its interpretation, send me for a while (to Yûsuf in the prison)."

يُوسُفُ أَيُّهَا الصِّدِّيقُ أَفْتِنَا فِي سَبْعِ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعِ سُنبُلاَتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ لَّعَلِّي أَرْجِعُ إِلَى النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

46.             Yoosufu ayyuha alssiddeequ aftina fee sabAAi baqaratin simanin yakuluhunna sabAAun AAijafun wasabAAi sunbulatin khudrin waokhara yabisatin laAAallee arjiAAu ila alnnasi laAAallahum yaAAlamoona
After reaching (in prison) he said: "O Yûsuf, O man of truth, tell me the interpretation of this dream that there are seven fat cows whom the seven lean cows are eating and there are seven green ears of corn and seven are dry, perhaps I return to those people, and perhaps they know it."

قَالَ تَزْرَعُونَ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ دَأَبًا فَمَا حَصَدتُّمْ فَذَرُوهُ فِي سُنبُلِهِ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً مِّمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ

47.             Qala tazraAAoona sabAAa sineena daaban fama hasadtum fatharoohu fee sunbulihi illa qaleelan mimma takuloona
Yûsuf said: "You people will keep doing cultivation for seven consecutive years.  During this period whatever you harvest from it only take that much which is sufficient for your food, and leave the rest in ears of corn.

ثُمَّ يَأْتِي مِن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ سَبْعٌ شِدَادٌ يَأْكُلْنَ مَا قَدَّمْتُمْ لَهُنَّ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً مِّمَّا تُحْصِنُونَ

48.             Thumma yatee min baAAdi thalika sabAAun shidadun yakulna ma qaddamtum lahunna illa qaleelan mimma tuhsinoona
Then seven very hard years will come.  In that period all this grain will be eaten-up which you will store for that time. If anything would be saved that will be only what you have reserved (left in ears of corn).

ثُمَّ يَأْتِي مِن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ عَامٌ فِيهِ يُغَاثُ النَّاسُ وَفِيهِ يَعْصِرُونَ

49.             Thumma yatee min baAAdi thalika AAamun feehi yughathu alnnasu wafeehi yaAAsiroona
After this then one such year will come in which prayers of the people will be answered by abundant rain and they will squeeze the juice." (R) 16

وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ ائْتُونِي بِهِ فَلَمَّا جَاءهُ الرَّسُولُ قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ مَا بَالُ النِّسْوَةِ اللاَّتِي قَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ إِنَّ رَبِّي بِكَيْدِهِنَّ عَلِيمٌ

50.             Waqala almaliku itoonee bihi falamma jaahu alrrasoolu qala irjiAA ila rabbika faisalhu ma balu alnniswati allatee qattaAAna aydiyahunna inna rabbee bikaydihinna AAaleemun
The king said: "Bring him to me."  But when the king’s messenger came to Yûsuf -- he said: "Go back to your lord and ask him that what is the story (conspiracy) of those women who had cut their hands?  My Râbb is Well-Aware of their conspiracy”.

قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُنَّ إِذْ رَاوَدتُّنَّ يُوسُفَ عَن نَّفْسِهِ قُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلّهِ مَا عَلِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِن سُوءٍ قَالَتِ امْرَأَةُ الْعَزِيزِ الآنَ حَصْحَصَ الْحَقُّ أَنَاْ رَاوَدتُّهُ عَن نَّفْسِهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

51.             Qala ma khatbukunna ith rawadtunna yoosufa AAan nafsihi qulna hasha lillahi ma AAalimna AAalayhi min sooin qalati imraatu alAAazeezi alana hashasa alhaqqu ana rawadtuhu AAan nafsihi wainnahu lamina alssadiqeena
On this the king inquired from those women: "What is your experience of that time when you tried to seduce Yûsuf?"  They all said with one-voice: "Allâh forbid!  We did not find any sign of evil in him!"  Aziz's wife spoke-out: "Now the truth has been manifested, it was I who tried to seduce him, no doubt he is truthful."

ذَلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ وَأَنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَهْدِي كَيْدَ الْخَائِنِينَ

52.             Thalika liyaAAlama annee lam akhunhu bialghaybi waanna Allaha la yahdee kayda alkhaineena
(Yûsuf said): "By this (inquiry) my intention was that (Al-Azîz) should know -- that secretly I had not done any dishonesty to him, and that those who do dishonesty Allâh does not lead their plans to the path of success.
